Conservation Tips
There are a number of easy ways to save water, and they all start with you. When you save water, you save money on your utility bills. To cut back on indoor water use you can take shorter showers, flush less and shut off the water while you brush your teeth.

Here are just a few ways to be mindful of INDOOR WATER USE:

Shower: 2 gallons/minute (10 minute shower = 20 gallons)

Bath: 30 - 42 gallons

Toilet flushing:
Old toilets - 3 - 3.5 gallons per flush
New federal standard - 1.6 gallons per flush
High Efficiency - 1l28 gallons per flush

Brushing Teeth:
Tap running - 2 gallons/minute
Tap off during brushing - 1 quart

Dishwashing:
Energy Star Rated - 3-5 gallons
Older - Up to 15 gallons
Efficient hand washing - 8 gallons

Laundry:
Older machine - 29-45 gallons per load
High efficiency - 15 - 30 gallons per load

Here are just a few ways to be mindful of OUTDOOR WATER USE:

* Washing down driveways;

* Watering outdoor landscapes in a manner that causes excess runoff;

* Washing motor vehicles with a hose, unless the hose is fitted with a shut-off nozzle;

* Operating a fountain or decorative water feature, unless the water is part of a recirculating system;
